Things to do in Freeport Bahamas | Itinerary
I was very happy to visit the Bahamas for the first time last week! I was even there during my birthday which was such a fun experience. The Bahamas are made of many islands, but I specifically visited Freeport. I was pleasantly surprised by how many things there were to do there! I have created what I think is the perfect itinerary of Freeport and the same itinerary that I experienced!
Day 1- Things to do in Freeport Bahamas
Afternoon- Arrive and Check In
I recommend staying at the Pelican Bay Hotel if you are hoping for a nice and relaxing accommodation in a great central location. Located close to shopping, restaurants and a nearby beach! It is literally a one minute walk to Port Lucayan Marketplace and there are a plethora of restaurants to choose from!
The grounds are beautiful, the staff is great and they even have 3 pools. You can take a free ferry right to Taino Beach as well. It is a really pretty beach with lots of palm trees and resorts nearby! After settling in and perhaps going for a swim at the hotel, pop into Sabor for dinner. It is right on the Pelican Bay Hotel property and includes a fusion menu with many options.

DAY 2 East End of Freeport
9 AM- Snorkel and Kayak
For our first activity on the island, we decided to go on a kayak and snorkeling tour. We loved our tour guide Rudy who taught us so much about the history of Freeport. We headed to the East End of Freeport and stopped at a beautiful beach called Crabbing Bay Beach.
It was such a beautiful beach and it was completely secluded! We were the only group there. We hopped on our kayaks and enjoyed a relaxing adventure to see a blue hole right in the middle of the ocean. It was one of the craziest sights I have ever seen! Imagine rowing along shallow beautiful clear waters and then suddenly, the water turns a deep blue and is deeper than you could imagine! It opens up into a deep sea cavern aka the blue hole!
After snorkeling around the area, we headed off to another blue hole! We saw a lot of gorgeous marine life, including sea stars! We loved it!
TIP: Remember not to move the marine life outside of the water or remove it from where you found it.
Things to do in Freeport Bahamas
1:00 PM Picnic Lunch and Hang out on Beach
After kayaking, Rudy stopped at a local joint for some yummy traditional Bahamian grub. We took the food to go and enjoyed a nice picnic at a beach called Pelican Point. We were not surprised to find out what the name was because when we arrived we saw 4 HUGE pelicans! They were amazing and the biggest ones I have ever seen!
Pelican Point was another gorgeous and secluded beach. Just be careful of the biting flies because they actually hurt a lot!
3:00 PM- Relax by the Pool
After the adventurous morning in the sun, a dip in the pool will feel very refreshing! There are actually 3 pools at Pelican Bay Hotel, but this one is fun because it is actually a swim up bar with great views and cute hanging lights! Definitely the perfect place to unwind before you get ready for sunset and dinner.
7 PM- Sunset by the Pier and Dinner at Agave
There is a beautiful pier right by Pelican Bay Hotel that is a perfect place to watch sunset before heading over to the Port Lucayan Marketplace for dinner. After watching the sun set, head over to Agave. If you time it right, try to head there if it is a Tuesday- they have $2 Tuesdays! Agave is a Latin Fusion restaurant and they are well known for their mojitos and margaritas. They have some really yummy seafood options and delicious rice bowls, nachos, guacamole, etc. Also, it happened to be my birthday when we visited and the staff was so cute and sang the cutest rendition of a birthday song and brought me this big chocolate cake!
Day 3 West End of Freeport
10:00 AM- Lunch and Explore Old Bahama Bay
We headed over to the West End of Freeport, the launching point for where we would be taking a snorkeling and stingray tour. We walked around the grounds of Old Bahama Bay and it was breath taking! The pastel-colored buildings, the swaying palms everywhere, a serene swimming pool and the dreamiest beach you can imagine! Apparently a lot of celebrities have stayed here like Beyonce! And John Travolta actually used to own one of the suites! If you are able to, I highly recommend staying here for one night.
We ate lunch at their on-site restaurant- Teaser’s. They had a lot of salads, wraps and sandwiches to choose from and all of the food was really tasty!
12:00 PM- Snorkel and Stingray Tour
After a relaxing afternoon, we headed on our merry way with Keith, our tour guide. It was so nice because Keith is a local and incredibly knowledgeable of the area. We took a relaxing boat ride to the first snorkeling area with some of the most gorgeous reefs and beautiful marine life! The water is so clear that you can actually get a good glimpse of everything from the boat.
After a bit of snorkeling, we headed over to Sandy Cay for a truly once in a lifetime experience with stingrays. Keith has visited Sandy Cay for a long time now and it is truly amazing to see what he has learned about stingrays in that time and how he interacts with them. He is actually even writing a book which I am eager to get my hands on after being around such fascinating creatures.
To be completely honest, in the beginning, I was really nervous and anxious to get in the water with so many sting rays swimming all around us. Keith does everything in his power not only to make sure everyone is prepared, but that everyone is comfortable too. I am so happy that I overcame my fears so that I could experience sitting in the shallow waters with stingrays and even some sharks swimming all around us. I honestly don’t know if there is another tour out there like this because the stingrays are in the wild, but Keith really loves them and has a fascination with them so I felt safe because he has learned all of the proper measures to take. I am really happy because we did an underwater photo shoot, so I really recommend bringing a go pro and a dome if you have it for some really cool pictures.
Sandy Cay itself is a pretty cay to hang out on and has some really cool photo spots and definitely one of the coolest things to do in Freeport Bahamas.
This is the exact tour I did here!

7:00 PM- Dinner at Smith’s Point Fish Fry
I think this is definitely a must have experience! It is held on the beach every Wednesday night. Many restaurants engage in a cookout of traditional Bahamian food and they all play really loud music, but it is a lot of fun! They traditionally serve lobster, conch of all kinds (which is a must try while in the Bahamas), BBQ chicken, jerk pork, etc. There is also a dance floor that goes all night. It is a really great experience to be able to enjoy the culture with locals!
DAY 4 Jeep Tour Adventure
8:00 Depart for Jeep Tour
We joined a Jeep Safari Tour and it was so fun! You get to drive your own 4 x 4 open top jeep in a convoy, led by an experienced guide. Our guide’s name was Dwaine and he was really knowledgeable and entertaining too! It is nice because the roads we traveled on didn’t have a lot of traffic so you don\’t need to worry about that! They also have every color you can imagine of jeeps- even really cute pink and yellow ones!
Lucayan National Park
Our first stop on the tour was at Lucayan National Park and it was absolutely beautiful. We walked through several different ecosystems and mangroves and then got to visit this amazing cave that reminded me a lot of a cenote in Mexico!
Gold Rock Beach
One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to and definitely the most well known in Freeport, Bahamas – Gold Rock Beach is famous for being one of the locations for the filming of Pirates of the Carribean. This beach is definitely not a secret and you will be sharing it with other people unlike the previous beaches mentioned, but it is definitely still worth a visit because the water color is extraordinary! The water is so nice and warm too. I think I could have stayed there all day!
Lunch- Garden of the Groves
Garden of the Groves felt like a real life Rain Forest Cafe! The setting for lunch is unreal, in the middle of a rain forest next to a waterfall. There was even a parrot greeting me when I came inside saying \”Hello!\” There were also many different kinds of birds, some ducks and some resident cats! It was nice to walk around the lush botanical garden after lunch with many different pathways and even some cute shops right in the middle, perfect for finding any last minute souvenirs!
4 PM- Shopping
After the fun jeep tour, you will have the afternoon free to shop around at the Port Lucayan Marketplace. There were actually some really adorable straw bags and all sorts of cute clothes and trinkets. This area is also really great for taking cute Instagram photos!
6 PM- Manta Ray Beach Club
We headed to Manta Ray Beach Club to enjoy the sunset and we weren’t disappointed. The light was so beautiful. This is also such a cute place with tire swings and all sorts of little games right on the beach.
Dinner- Out Da Sea
We headed to a local place named Out Da Sea for dinner and everyone was very happy with their meals. It was actually so good! I think it was my favorite meal from the trip! They had a variety of choices from delicious pizzas, cheesy bread and Caesar salads to seafood selections and hamburgers! The atmosphere was also really great and I thought the decorations were fun!
Day 5- Head Home – Things to do in Freeport Bahamas
10 AM- Perfume Factory Tour
We had a little bit of time before we had to head home so we decided to take a short perfume tour. The building itself was an adorable old pink mansion. The tour was pretty short, but informative and interesting. I think the best part though is that you have the opportunity to create your own cologne or perfume mixing different scents!
12:00 PM- Lunch at Manta Ray Beach Club
We headed back to Manta Ray Beach Club since the night before we only watched sunset and didn’t have time to eat, walk around or play any fun games. The setting is perfect, right on the beach with the beautiful ocean in the background. Lunch was pretty good and the staff was friendly!
