While Cancun is often associated with spring break parties and crowded beaches, there is a wealth of things to do in Cancun for couples. From swimming in crystal-clear cenotes to savoring sunsets on secluded islands, Cancun offers a plethora of unique things to do that will make your trip unforgettable.

Adventurous Things to do in Cancun for Couples

1-ATV Jungle Adventure and Zipline

This is one of the most fun and adventurous thing to do in Cancun for couples. The adventure park is such a blast. They have many different activities that you can choose from and this is a great way to spend an adventurous day outdoors in Cancun.

One of our very favorite things to do in Cancun was the zipline through the jungle. This was so fun and there were 3 different zipline flights. Then there is an off-road session in an ATV. Afterwards, you can cool off while swimming in a cenote and then you can do a tequila tasting.

2- Garrafon Park

Garrafon Park is a beautiful and fun adventure park located in Isla Mujeres. You can definitely spend a whole afternoon here and not get bored. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Cancun for couples.

There is a beach, ziplines that go right into the ocean, kayaking, swimming pools, snorkeling and even a huge buffet with a wide variety of foods to choose from. Drinks, as well as alcoholic drinks are also included. The tour we took also included our ferry tickets from Cancun and it’s just a short ferry ride away.

3- Golf Cart Tour Around Isla Mujeres

On one of our days in Cancun, we decided to take the short ferry ride over to Isla Mujeres to spend the day and it was an absolute blast. This island is beautiful, laid back and has a great vibe. If your looking for things to do in Cancun for couples, look no further.

We ended up going on a golf cart tour of the whole island! We spent the morning relaxing at a colorful and fun beach club, dipping our toes in the sand and water, heading to the southern tip to see Mayan ruins and a lighthouse and visiting a Turtle Farm. Honestly a 10/10 kind of day.

Isla Mujeres is a must when visiting Cancun, it was definitely one of my favorite things to do on the trip.

4-Cenotes

Visiting Cenotes is one of the very top things to do in Cancun for couples. A Cenote is a natural spring water pool caused by limestone sinkholes. There are tons of Cenotes in the Cancun area and they definitely are a must experience.

There are many tours you an take to these cenotes, but I’ll show you two I really like. Firstly, there is a tour that is very adventurous and you visit sights in the Riviera Maya area. You get to explore the ancient Mayan city of Coba that’s surrounded in thick rain forest. Then you actually get to climb the highest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula- yes please!

Afterwards, you are taken to two underwater caves at Sac Actun- it’s actually the world’s largest underwater cave system. You can book this really adventurous and spectacular tour here.

You can also do a combo tour which is really perfect if you are wanting to also explore the Mayan Ruins of Tulum. This area is so incredible- I highly recommend it! I loved the Tulum Ruins and the beach there is so incredible! This is a small group tour that visits Tulum, goes to a ranch for some Tequila tasting and then swims in 3 different cenotes!

5-Xcaret

Xcaret is an eco-archaeological park located in the Riviera Maya and is absolutely one of the top things to do for couples in Cancun. You can visit Xcaret on this day trip tour and there is really so much to do here! You can swim in a lagoon, snorkel in clear waters and discover a network of subterranean rivers. There’s also a chance to see a lot of wildlife including birds, monkeys and butterflies as you explore the jungle there.

6- Catamaran and Snorkeling Adventure

Looking for something relaxing to do in Cancun? Head on a catamaran and snorkeling excursion. On this adventure, you will sail along Cancun’s Caribbean coastline to Isla Mujeres. Once there, you get to go snorkeling and afterwards, enjoy a delicious lunch on the catamaran.

After lunch, explore Isla Mujeres a bit and go to some must-see spots with your guide or explore on your own. Then on the way back from your adventure, they actually give out complimentary beverages which is so refreshing after a hot day in the Cancun sun.

7- The Mayan Museum of Cancun

One of the most unique things to do in Cancun, Mexico is to visit the Mayan Museum of Cancun. The Museum is so fascinating and is very popular because it houses one of the largest archaeological collections of Mayan culture!

It’s also really cool because behind the museum there is a jungle path that leads to San Miguelito which was once a thriving Mayan community and there are actually a few stone temples, dwellings and pyramids to see to.

8- Cirque Du Soleil

Venturing out to see a Cirque Du Soleil show in the Riveria Maya is one of my favorite things to do in Cancun for couples. The show was so so unreal and incredible- it’s hard to even articulate or put into words. The venue is also so amazing outside so make sure to come early to walk around. The auditorium where the show takes place is also so incredible! You can buy your tickets here and it also includes transfers from your hotel.

The current show is ‘JOYÁ’ and it is about an alchemist and his granddaughter setting out on a quest to discover the secrets of life and they are accompanied by some mythical creatures. Cirque du Soleil is an amazing show filled with drama, music and acrobatics. This show is specifically inspired by the history of Mexico and its heritage. Depending on your tickets, you can also have champagne, appetizers or even a full meal.

9- See Mayan Ruins- Chichen Itza

One of the all time best Cancun excursions for couples is to see Mayan Ruins! Some of the best ones to see are Chichen Itza- the history here is really spectacular. The Yucatan Peninsula showcases history from the pre-Colombian era to 16th century towns settled by the Spanish. I highly recommend going on a full day tour to see them.

There are many different Cancun excursion options, but I really like this tour because it packs in so much! You get to see Chichen Itza, the pyramid of Kukulcan and the architecture of Valladolid. After all of that exploring, you get to relax in a cenote and then enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. 10- See Mayan Ruins- Tulum

The Mayan Ruins in Tulum are also one of the best Cancun excursions for couples. These ruins are quite different than the ones in Chichen Itza, but are also very worthwhile. The ruins in Tulum are situated on 40 foot cliffs along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean sea. The turquoise waters below are gorgeous and you can even visit this beach after visiting the ruins.

Tulum was actually one of the last cities built and then inhabited by the Mayan people and was thriving around the 13th and 15th centuries. Visiting Tulum is a perfect day trip for those who are looking for something unique to do in Cancun for couples. What sets the site apart from other ruins in Mexico is that it is very well-preserved and boasts this incredible beach.
