Alpine Poppy Fields in Utah

Poppy Flower Fields in Utah

One of my very favorite things about the Summer time is all of the beautiful wildflowers in Utah everywhere! They are only in bloom for a short window of two weeks in June. The past two years I always seemed to be out of town right when they were blooming. However, this year, I finally got to see them! I was still a little bit late and didn’t get to see as many wildflowers as I would have liked. But I am so happy I finally got to see them and they were so beautiful!

Are the poppies blooming in Alpine Utah?

(June 13, 2024) The Alpine poppies are in full bloom! If you want to see them at their best, try to visit them this week.

Rumor has it that the alpine poppies are now closed. I’m not sure what this entails like if they just shut the gate to the main area with the poppies or what.

There are still poppies in the surrounding areas though.

How to Get to the Alpine Poppy Flower Fields

If you want to find these same poppy fields in Utah, Try this. You’ll drive through a really lovely neighborhood with beautiful homes! if you type in Alpine Poppy Field, it will lead you to a church where you can park or you can park at the Lambert Park South Trailhead. However, if you pick this route, you will have to walk 0.8 miles to get there (still fairly easy and manageable for all ages).

I recommend taking this route instead! Type in Lambert Park West Trailhead and it will lead you to a small parking lot (no one else was there when we got there) and the walk is only 0.4 miles 1 way instead. Very manageable and easy. There are also now little red poppy flower flags to show you the way to go so you don’t get lost since there’s a lot of intersecting paths in this area on the way to the Alpine Poppy field.

I went today (June 3rd) at 11 AM on a weekday afternoon and it was very busy. There were tons of moms and lots of kids, photographers and even someone on a bike going around the poppy fields.

Please if you go, be respectful to the poppies! Do not step on them or pick them! And try to remain on regular paths as much as possible. The poppy fields are so beautiful and some of my favorite wildflowers in Utah. I promise you will not regret visiting them!

The poppy fields in Alpine were closed for a little bit while the city made updates to try and better preserve this area. There are now some new trails and signs to follow.

Note: Some people have said they have spotted rattlesnakes in this area so be cautious. I didn’t personally see any when I was there. I also saw a sign when we were there saying to avoid certain areas because rattlesnakes have been recently sighted.

Mantua Poppy Flower Fields in Utah

Are the poppies blooming in Mantua?

The poppies always bloom in June, but each year is different. The poppies are currently in bloom! (June 30, 2024)

The poppies are starting to bloom and pop up sporadically. The next week or two should have many poppies blooming in Mantua.

How to get to the Mantua Poppy Flower Fields

The Mantua Poppy Fields in Northern Utah are absolutely incredible. They are very easy to find. All you have to do is enter “Mantua Poppy Fields” or “Box Elder Campground” into Google Maps. The poppy fields are just about an hour north of Salt Lake and it’s a nice little pleasant day trip.

As you are arriving, you will see tons of bright red poppies already on the side of the road and it is seriously awe-inspiring! Once you make it to the campground, the poppy fields are just a short drive away and you can’t miss them. There will be a parking lot and then you can explore as much as you want. There are definitely more poppies here than the Alpine location, although they are both beautiful.

Tips for the Mantua Poppy Flower Fields

Try to come early in the morning if you can to avoid crowds. Golden hour is the best time for lighting with your photos, but you will also be fighting crowds. Even in the middle of the afternoon on a Wednesday, there were quite a lot of people. Just be patient and look for spots with out people- there will be plenty because this area is pretty big.

There are also many pockets of poppies growing even before you get into the main campground field area. I also love that there are some poppies growing all over a little grove in between trees. It truly makes for the most magical experience and photos.

We have heard that there will be a parking fee imposed this year for $15 and people in charge making sure you pay or you will be fined.

Make sure to bring some snacks and a bottle of water because it gets really hot. Also, please be respectful of others and only walk on designated paths so you don’t trample any of the poppies.

I took my toddler to the Mantua Poppy fields and he absolutely loved the horses nearby. We also stopped at the Mantua Reservoir after which was incredibly beautiful and there’s a nice little beach there. We stopped in Brigham City and ate lunch at Maddox. It was so good and I highly recommend it. My Toddler even got his meal served on a frisbee that you get to take home after which was pretty cute.

Tip: Beware of bees in the poppy fields and I have heard there are sometimes snakes although I have personally never seen any.
