Is Moab Utah Kid Friendly?
There is truly so much to do in Moab with kids- it’s literally like a giant outdoor playground with all there is to do!
This post will show you some of the most family friendly hotels in Moab, best things to do in Moab with kids and even some of the best places to eat in Moab.
How many days do you need for Moab?
If you are rushed for time, you can hit a lot of the big highlights in 2-3 days. But if you can, I recommend at least 3 days and even up to 5 or 6 days if you want to take a more relaxed pace and truly just savor the incredible surroundings plus there are truly some epic family friendly hikes and other things to do in Moab.
What are good months to visit Moab?
Visiting Moab with kids is always a good idea and each time of year has their pros and cons, but I recommend coming during shoulder season which is in Spring and Fall. The temperatures aren’t as hot as they are in the Summer and it’s also not quite as busy. We came during March and the weather was perfect and it wasn’t too busy to still enjoy ourselves.

Family friendly Moab Accomodations:
Red Cliffs Lodge:
One of the best places to stay in Moab with kids is Red Cliffs lodge. We absolutely had the best time with our toddler. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation and you don’t even have to leave the property because there is so much to do.
If you have older kids, you can even take them horse back riding right from the lodge. Otherwise, your little ones will love being able to see the horses.
There is a hot tub, pool, incredible playground, restaurant right on site, amazing cabins to stay in, and nightly activities including paint parties.

Here are some more great places to stay in Moab with Kids:
Hyatt Place Moab:
Hyatt Place is one of my favorite hotel chains and they have a newer one in Moab which would be a great place to stay. It’s a modern hotel with spacious rooms, comfortable beds and a range of amenities. They have an outdoor pool, a 24/7 market. It’s in a really great and convenient location right in the center of Moab. This is definitely a great choice for family friendly Moab accommodations. Click here to book your stay.
Element by Westin:
My family also really enjoys staying at the eco-friendly Element by Westin whenever we travel and there is one located in a really great and convenient location in Moab really close to many attractions. I also love that the hotel includes a complimentary breakfast (a really good one including one hot item made by the chef every day like omelettes or avocado toast).
The surrounding landscape views are amazing from the hotel, there is a great pool and fully equipped kitchen for quick snacks or your favorite meals which is a huge perk so you don’t have to eat out every single night.

Family Friendly Things to do in Moab with Kids:
1- Arches National Park
Is Arches National Park Kid Friendly?
Arches National Park is one of the very best things to do in Moab with kids. And dare I say this is one of the most kid friendly and toddler friendly national parks I have ever been to. The amount of toddler and kid friendly hikes is incredible.
There are many hikes to do ranging from short .3 mile hikes to places like Balanced Rock and a little bit more challenging of hikes for older kids to popular places like Delicate Arch.
If you have kids with you in Moab, also make sure to try out the Junior Ranger program. This was our first time doing it with our 3 year old and I highly recommend it. You can stop at the Visitor’s Center and they will give you the Junior Ranger booklet. Depending on how old your kid is, they will need to complete a certain amount of pages to be deemed a Junior Ranger. Once you complete the pages, you bring it back to the Visitor’s Center for a little induction ceremony and a souvenir badge.
This program is really great for parents and kids a like. My little one has fun working on it and I love that he is learning new things while exploring the National Parks.

2- Lions Park
This park in Moab is so great with kids. There are amazing bike trails everywhere and a really cool bridge to walk over the river.
The main park area also has a few mini climbing boulders so little ones and adults alike can try out rock climbing to see if they like it. The ground is softer too in case you fall.
The setting here was amazing and my toddler loved running around the boulders area and sitting on them with our help.
3- Rotary Park
Rotary park is located near downtown Moab and is a great family friendly Moab location. It’s the perfect place to bring snacks or a picnic lunch and unwind.
There are 2 different playgrounds and my toddler loved both, but the Harmony music playground at the park was especially fun and unique. It’s an all abilities park with over 8 different little areas where kids can play music with the toys. This is the perfect place to stop in Moab with kids.
4- Moab Giants
If you are headed to Moab with kids- Moab Giants is an absolute must! This park was so so fun for our little dinosaur loving toddler and it was really cool for us parents too.
There’s a dinosaur trail with over 100 life size dinosaurs with the amazing red rocks in the background. This place is one of the most family friendly in Moab. Click here to get your tickets!
There’s also a little playground for kids and a big Dino Dig sand pit area (and a small one on the Dino trail as well). There are also these adorable Dino wagons that little ones could sit in too and my toddler was so excited.
There’s also a small indoor dinosaur museum and a 5-D Aquarium where little ones can even see a Mosasaurus in the water.

5- Moab Movie Museum
There is a cute little movie museum which is fun to visit while in Moab with kids. It’s located in the basement of The Red Cliffs Lodge and it’s free to visit.
I don’t know that you need to necessarily go out of your way to visit, (unless you’re a huge movie buff) but if you happen to be in the area, it’s worth checking out.
There’s a lot of fun movie memorabilia from movies filmed in the Moab area and a lot of fun props to look at too.
6- Dead Horse Point State Park
For a unique and unforgettable family adventure in Moab, head to Dead Horse Point State Park! This stunning park offers breathtaking views of the Colorado River and surrounding landscapes, as well as a variety of activities for kids while in Moab.
Take a short hike to the famous Dead Horse Point overlook, explore the parks many trails or enjoy a picnic with a view. This park is fun to visit in Moab with kids because they can learn about the park’s natural history and geology through interactive exhibits and ranger-led programs.
The incredible scenery and fun activities at the Visitor’s center makes Dead Horse Point State Park a must-visit destination for families exploring Moab with Kids!
Note: The only hike with a “stone railing” is the hike right at the Visitor’s Center so be very careful with your little ones or just enjoy the views from afar to stay safe.
7- Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands National Park is another national park you must visit while in Moab with kids! This park is so beautiful and reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. From hiking through towering canyons to exploring ancient ruins or taking a scenic drive through the Island in the Sky district- there is something for everyone.
Canyonlands National Park is actually huge, but I recommend at least exploring the Island in the Sky area. There are some really great kid friendly hikes here as well including Mesa Arch which the national park is probably the most famous for. (Just be aware that right behind the arch is a sheer drop off so keep a close eye on younger kids or wait until they are older to do this one).
A couple of other kid friendly hikes at Canyonlands National park include Shafer Canyon, Shafer Trail Overlook, Aztec Butte and Green River Overlook. This park also has the Junior Ranger program which is so fun while visiting Moab with kids and your little ones will learn about geology, wildlife and human history through interactive exhibits and ranger-led programs.

8- Bike Riding
If you are heading to Moab with kids, then you will discover that Moab is a bike riding mecca. We saw countless bike trails all over Moab and it made me so excited for when my 3-year-old is a little bit older and we can come back and bring bikes. It is one of the most family friendly activities and Moab and we definitely saw so many families and kids riding along the trails.
One of the trails that looked especially cool was just off of Lions Park. You could ride your bike over a cool bridge and next to the river. Along this trail, we also saw some fun little cowboy structures. Going on a bike ride would be really fun for older kids as well.
9-Potash Scenic Road
Potash Scenic Road is a stunning scenic drive that winds its way through a rugged landscape of Moab. It is really incredible with towering red cliffs high above you on one side of the road. You can keep going on this road for a long time as it becomes a dirt road and then you can see the Potash ponds.
If you decide to just drive part of the road, I recommend stopping to see the petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks that are on the side of the road. You will have to hike up some rocks a little bit to see the dinosaur tracks so this might be harder with really little ones. If your family is interested in rock climbing then you will absolutely love the Wall Street climbing area.
There is also a really great hike here called Corona Arch. There are some ladders to climb and it’s a little bit harder for little ones.
10-Horse Back Riding/Meet horses
Horseback riding in Moab with kids is sure to be an unforgettable experience. Most tours you will go on do have an age limit so this is most likely best suited for older kids (usually 12 and older). We did have some resident horses at the place we stayed in Moab- The Red Cliffs Lodge so luckily my toddler was able to spend some time meeting them and he had so much fun.
Horseback riding is already a great experience, but being able to do it with incredibly scenic red rock back drops is unreal. You can find a few of the best horseback riding companies in Moab here.
11- ATV riding/UTV riding
There are so many incredible places in Moab to ride an ATV or UTV. If you don’t have your own, no worries- there are lots of tours. I recommend taking this tour. This tour is highly rated and acclaimed and is very fun and adventurous for families with older kids.
On the tour, you will take an off-road adventure at one of Moab’s most exhilarating 4×4 trails- Hell’s Revenge. You will see tons of natural features including canyons, rock formations and dinosaur footprints. I also love that you can let your local guide take the wheel or you can try driving yourself if you are comfortable.
Book your ATV Riding Tour here
12- River Rafting
River rafting is one of the most family friendly Moab activities. River rafting is another must if you are visiting this area. Not only is it super fun, but the setting is truly so incredible! I recommend this river rafting tour if you are visiting Moab with kids. If you have really young kids, you won’t be able to do this activity, but 4 and older can go! My son is 3 so I can’t wait to be able to take him soon.
13- Hole in the Rock Moab
Hole in the Rock is one of the most unique things to do in Moab with kids. It is actually a home carved out of a huge rock. It’s a 5,000 square foot home and unusual gift shop and trading post. You can also actually take 12 minute guided tours of the home.
There is also an exotic zoo there that includes a camel, watusi, albino racoon and more animals. There are also unique metal art sculptures, antique tools and vintage neon signs. There’s also a big Mater to see which is really fun for little kids.
14-Red Cliffs Lodge playground
If you are not staying at Red Cliffs Lodge, you can still visit the property and come and eat breakfast, lunch or dinner with the most scenic and incredible views right on the Colorado river at their on-site restaurant The Cowboy Grill. The service here was really great and the food is pretty good, but the star of the show is the setting.
Before or after your meal, take your kids to the playground right in front of the lodge. It’s actually a really really good one. There are tons of different slides and structures to climb and our toddler had an absolute blast here. And you definitely won’t be upset about the setting either.
15- Moab Rec Center
Looking for a fun and active break from exploring Moab’s iconic landscapes with your kids? Look no further than the Moab Recreation Center! This fantastic facility offers a range of activities and amenities perfect for families, including a swimming pool, water slides, playground, sports courts and more.
Your little ones can burn off energy at the indoor play area or participate in many kids’ programs offered through out the year. Whether you are seeking a quick dip or a full day of play, the Moab Rec Center is a must visit spot for families exploring Moab with kids.
Family Friendly Moab with Kids Hikes
16- Corona Arch Hike
Corona Arch Hike is a 2.3 miles out and back trail considered a moderate hike, but it’s great while visiting Moab with kids. (Especially older kids).
This moderate hike rewards families with spectacular views of the iconic Corona Arch, a towering 140-foot sandstone span. Follow the trail through a scenic canyon crossing railroad tracks.
Then there is a small section of the trail that includes ladders and safety cables. This section is exposed to steep drop-offs and is considered a scramble so this hike might be a bit harder with younger kids. This route allows dogs on leash, but it might be hard for some dogs to make it up the ladder section.
Once you make it to the arch, make sure to take lots of photos because the scale is incredible and the arch is epic! The Corona Arch Hike is an unmissable experience for families seeking an unforgettable adventure in Moab.
17-Mill Creek Hike
This family-friendly hiking trail in Moab is a hidden gem and considered fairly easy for kids. It’s 2.2 miles and winds its way through a lush oasis, with towering cottonwood trees and vibrant wildflowers lining the path.
Follow the gentle stream and discover hidden pools and waterfalls at the end, perfect for a refreshing splash on a hot day. (But it’s also quite popular in the summer and is considered a local swimming hole).
With its easy terrain and stunning scenery, Mill Creek Hike is a must-do for families looking for a relaxing and memorable outdoor adventure in Moab on a hot summer day!
18-Wilson Arch
Wilson Arch, another hidden gem, is a stunning natural wonder and perfect family friendly hike in Moab! This easy-to-access arch is a perfect destination for families, offering a short and scenic hike to a breathtaking sandstone formation.
Stand beneath the towering 45-foot arch and marvel at its intricate details, or capture a family photo with the arch as a striking backdrop. With its accessible trail and awe-inspiring scenery, Wilson Arch is a must-visit destination for families seeking a quick and unforgettable adventure in Moab!
Wilson Arch is an elegant sandstone feature that sits along Highway 191 south of Moab. The pull-out, located less than a mile south of La Sal Junction, is well-marked, and the hike is free which is an added bonus.
Wilson Arch is easily accessible and beautiful, and is only a five-minute hike making it the perfect hike in Moab with kids.
19- Fisher Towers
Fisher Towers is a 5.2 mile out and back family friendly Moab with kids hike. This one is a bit harder and longer than some of the others so it may be best suited for older kids or little ones that will sit in a hiking carrier. The Fisher Towers are a really incredible landscape to see making this hike well worth it. The Cottontail Tower is massive and is an 800-foot-high spire!
If you are wanting to do part of the hike and turn around, that is also a great option. You can end your hike at the ridge below Ancient Art which is a rock formation with a corkscrew-shaped summit. It’s easy to follow and is well marked. There is no shade or cover on the trail so plan accordingly with hats, lots of water and sunscreen.
20-Mill Canyon Dinosaur Track Site
Moab Utah is such an incredible place to visit to learn more about dinosaurs and paleontology as so many have been discovered here. This incredible site features over 200 dinosaur tracks. Your little ones will love discovering the tracks and being able to see them up close and in person. This track site is an early Cretaceous dinosaur tracksite located north of Moab.
21-Grandstaff Canyon
Grandstaff Canyon is a hidden gem you have to visit in Moab with kids! This stunning canyon has sparkling streams you walk through and towering sandstone walls.
This is a moderate hike with your kids on this family friendly 4.5 mile out and back hike in Moab to Morning Glory Bridge. Morning Glory Natural Bridge, which has a span of 243 feet, is actually the sixth longest natural rock span in the United States!
Your little ones will love exploring the shallow streams and discovering hidden treasures, making Grandstaff Canyon a must-visit destination for families in Moab!
Warning- poison ivy grows under the bridge below the pool

It is lined with eclectic shops, yummy restaurants, art galleries, rock and gem shops and souvenir shops. You can also indulge in some southwestern or classic American fare. Your kids will also enjoy exploring the vibrant murals all around downtown Moab main street.

- Pasta Jay’s- yummy pizzas and pastas
- Moab Canyon Pizza- some of the best pizza around
- Dough birds- make sure to try the famous cronuts
